In the second episode, we are introduced to Kurt Caldwell, father of spoiled rich brat Matt Caldwell and, it turns out, Dexter’s chief competitor in the neighborhood serial killer market. Decorated with holiday lights and trimming, the interior of the tavern is, in actuality, the Bull Run in Shirley. All is forgiven, at least, for now.īut before all that happens, Dexter goes to the Iron Lake Tavern to meet his girlfriend for line-dancing night. Making a conscious decision that his doesn’t need trophies anymore (aka blood samples preserved on a microscope slides), Dexter concludes “I may be a monster but I’m an evolving monster.” Hall voice declares as the actor orgasmically thrusts a knife in the chest of his first victim in nearly a decade. It’s just harder to get the dismembered body parts in the spokes. Soon, Dexter finds out that first hand, foot and severed head that old slicing and dicing habits die hard and serial killing is like riding a bicycle. And, the more he encounters Caldwell (and learns about Caldwell’s disgusting, blood-soaked backstory), the more the reformed serial killer is itching to get out of retirement and give the creep his just deserts. Instantly, the viewer knows Dexter has found his long-delayed next kill, whether Dexter realizes it or not. That is until he crosses paths with spoiled rich brat Max Caldwell (Steve Robertson), who wants to buy a $9,000 Modern Outfitters MC6 Semi-Auto Rifle with a Leupold Scope, without waiting for the proper federal background check. He goes through a regular routine each day and provides service and social pleasantries with a smile. Instead of moonlighting as a serial killer, Dexter is living the perfect life and lie. Not only that but Dexter hasn’t killed anyone for 10 years. But it turns out that Dexter, in fact, in the guise of his dull persona, is just sharpening the equally dull blade for the town’s butcher. When we see him sharpening a butcher cleever early on, we think Dexter is back to his wicked, Ginsu-carving ways. When the former forensic blood spatter expert is not hiding in plain sight as a pleasant store clerk at Fred’s Fish & Game located on a small town’s quant Main Street (in actuality, Shelburne Falls, Mass.), he’s chopping wood with an axe outside his log cabin and ice fishing on a nearby lake.ĭexter’s dead sister, Debra Morgan (played by Jennifer Carpenter), has replaced his adopted dad as the nagging voice of often irrational reasoning in his head and his fouled-mouthed conscience. Hall (who plays the show’s title character and his alias, Jim Lindsay) was filmed running through the woods of Camp Collier in Gardner, while his divine “Bambi” encounter took place at 535 Harvard Road in Lancaster.
